Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST) is on the cutting edge of energy medicine. It is a hands-on therapy that is holistic - it takes a whole-person approach to healing and acknowledges the inter-connections of mind, body and spirit. It is an effective form of treatment for a wide range of illnesses and conditions as it helps to create the optimal conditions for health, encouraging vitality and facilitating a sense of well being. It is suitable for people of all ages including babies, children and the elderly, and can be effective in acute or chronic cases.
BCST is based on Osteopathic principals that were founded over 100 years ago in which subtle movements felt in tissues throughout the body were attributed to the body's inherent life force, or "Breath of Life". The “Breath of Life” produces a series of subtle rhythms that may be felt in the body. At least three subtle rhythms have been identified and are known as the "primary respiratory system". This is the expression of Health that is the essence of our being. |

In the course of our life we encounter all sorts of stress and strain that gets locked in our body. These stresses may be physical or mental and can be overwhelming for our nervous system. When we have unresolved stress locked in our body, the tissues and fluids no longer move normally. This leads to resistance, compression and fixation in the tissues, which results in body aches, pains, joint stiffness and many other symptoms of discomfort and dis-ease.
In the Biodynamic Craniosacral approach, the therapist learns to identify areas of the body that are not expressing the subtle rhythms. The intention of treatment is to relate to the underlying organizing forces, the “Health” in the system, not just the resultant tissue and fluid changes. The expression of the “Breath of Life” is gently facilitated to enhance and activate the body’s own self-healing. The practitioner does this with a deep and clear quality of presence that encourages the resolution of the forces held in the body. When these underlying forces are resolved, the tissues can return to normal function and motion, again oriented to the “Breath of Life”.
This is a paradigm shift for most healthcare practitioners, even alternative or holistic ones. In BCST the practitioner learns to relate to the Health of the system, not just the patterns of resistance and fixation, no matter what the clinical circumstances. The inherent Health is never lost and is never compromised; it is present from birth until death.
